John Luther Harvey went home to be with the Lord on Sunday, August 24, 2025, at the age of 87. John was born May 20, 1938, in Shady Grove, Mississippi, where he and his two brothers were raised. He graduated from Kosciusko High School and had fond memories of his exploits with Lockett when they worked at the East End Grocery Store. John graduated from Mississippi State University in 1961 with a B.S. in animal husbandry and later served in the Army Reserve for four years based in Greenwood, Mississippi. While at State, John met his treasured wife, Nancy Robertson Harvey, when she went home with a college friend to Kosciusko.
John and Nancy married in 1963 and lived in Yazoo City, Mississippi, where he worked at Mississippi Chemical Corporation. When he became a field representative for the company, they moved to Russellville, Alabama, in 1972 where he worked from home until he retired after 37 years.
John attended First Baptist Church in Russellville where he served as a deacon. He enjoyed walking, had a vegetable garden for many years, grew various berries, and loved working in his yard. John’s actions spoke louder than words. He was a man of integrity who was devoted to his family, a dependable friend, and a faithful believer of Jesus Christ.
He was preceded in death by his wife of 49 years, Nancy Robertson Harvey, parents, Vester and Annie Harvey, and an older brother, Ray Harvey and his wife Sandra. He leaves behind his legacy of his daughters, Beth Harvey Uptagrafft and son-in-law Wendell and Judi Harvey Fike, grandchildren, John Fike and Kelli Badgett, his younger brother Pete Harvey and sister-in-law Judy, along with many nieces, nephews, and dear friends.
