John Louis DeVries, age 90 fell asleep in death on June 9, 2026. He was born August 2, 1935, to his parents the late John and Ida DeVries. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by siblings, Robert and Lucille; daughter, Dawn; granddaughter, Elizabeth.
He is survived by his wife of 68 years, Minta DeVries and children, John, Randall (Sherry), Eric (Melonie) and Jenny (Glenn). Also survived by grandchildren, Codie, Murfie, and Seth (Megan), as well as great-grandchildren, step-grandchildren, and nieces and nephews.
John was baptized as one of Jehovah’s Witnesses in 1970 and had a firm belief in the resurrection of the dead back to life on a paradise earth. He is safe in God’s memory until the fulfilment of the scripture at Hosea 13:14: “From the power of the Grave I will redeem them; From death I will recover them.” His family and friends look forward to that happy event.
A memorial service will be held Saturday, June 13, at 2PM at the Kingdom Hall of Jehovah’s Witnesses, 981 E. Broad St. Smithville. DeKalb Funeral Chapel is honored to care for the DeVries family.
