  John L. VickersMr. John L. Vickers, age 85, Arab, Alabama passed away peacefully on September 29, 2024 at his home with his family by his side. He was born April 4, 1939 in Mexico City, Mexico, to the late William Arthur Vickers and Julia Belle Breazeale Vickers. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his beloved sister Anna Belle Vickers Moore.
Mr. Vickers is survived by his wife Marsha, daughter Valerie, son John (Lisa), daughter Jennifer, son Courtney, and son Scott (Cindy). He is also survived by his sister Alice (Thomas), sister Margaret, and brother-in-law Larry Moore. He and Marsha had twelve grandchildren and twelve great grandchildren.
Mr. Vickers grew up in Boaz, Alabama where he met and married his wife of 68 years Marsha Hunt. He was a graduate of The University of Alabama with a B.S. in Mechanical Engineering. He was a professional licensed engineer for 64 years and served in many roles as an engineer for the U.S. Army on Redstone Arsenal in Huntsville, Alabama. He was a member of the St. Paul Methodist Church, Boaz Alabama and Arab First United Methodist Church.
He took great joy in his family, growing up in Boaz where he was a football and basketball star, and traveling to his father’s home in England by ship as a young man. He and his children had many adventures playing sports, boating on the lake, camping in the mountains, and at the beach. One of his favorite activities was telling stories and sharing the adventures of his family. He enjoyed his last Alabama football game on Saturday immensely.
A memorial service will be held Saturday, October 5, 2024 at 2:00 PM (CST) at Arab First United Methodist Church with visitation beginning at 1:00 PM. Burial will be at Hillcrest Cemetery in Boaz, Alabama at a later date. Rev. Brooke Hemphill (granddaughter) will officiate. In lieu of flowers, a charitable contribution can be sent to Arab First United Methodist Church to feed the needy in the Arab area or to Shepherd’s Cove Hospice.
