John Jack Nieder
May 13, 1936 – October 2, 2020

JJ, of Huntsville, Alabama, passed away of natural causes on Friday, October 2, 2020. He was preceded in death by his wife of 57 years, Jackie. Survivors include his two sons, Todd and Chip, daughter-in-law, Cindy, and grandchildren, Aleah, Jack, and Jada.

After graduating in aeronautical engineering from the University of Washington in Seattle he served as an Aircraft Maintenance Officer for three years in the Strategic Air Command at Griffiss Air Force Base. Subsequently, he worked for the Boeing Company in Seattle and Huntsville for 12 years on the AWACS aircraft and the Saturn V missile. In 1974 he began working for the Missile and Space Intelligence Center (MSIC) on Redstone Arsenal, part of the Defense Intelligence Agency (DIA), and retired at the end of 2010. He was awarded the US Army Superior Civilian Service Award and the Desert Shield/Desert Storm service medals.

He was the epitome of a loving father, grandfather, uncle, and friend. Those fortunate enough to refer to him as such have seen lives enriched with his quick wit, smiles, love, and compassion. He had the best friends a person could have and will be forever missed.

Visitation will be on Monday, October 5th, at Good Shepherd Catholic Church from 12:00 to 1:45 p.m. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to or visit the Veteran’s Memorial Museum.
