John Ira Rogers – Obituary

John Ira Rogers completed his earthly journey in the presence of his children on September 1, 2017. Mr. Rogers was born on Oct 7, 1931 in Green Hill, AL to Ira Norman and Clara Mae Rogers.

 

He was predeceased by his wife of 51 years, Ina Imogene “Jean” Rogers. His survivors include his son, Mark N Rogers and wife, Donna, and his daughter, Sandra Rogers Segal and her husband, Andrew, all of Huntsville.  Mr. Rogers enjoyed his grandchildren, Garrett and Blake Rogers, and Mary and John Paul Segal.  He enjoyed gardening as well as spending time with his family.  He has been a member of Willowbrook Baptist Church since 1979.

 

Mr. Rogers served his country for 23 years in the US Air Force where he was a veteran of both the Korean and Vietnam wars. He received the Bronze Star for his service in Vietnam.   Mr. Rogers retired from the Air Force as a Master Sergeant in 1974 when his family moved to Huntsville.  He began working at his second career as production manager at R & D Electronics until retiring again in 1994.

 

Mr. Rogers was a member of the first graduating class of Rogers High School in Green Hill, AL. He was predeceased by all his siblings.  They were Paris Arnold “Billy” Rogers, Josephine Rogers Grey, Charles O. Rogers, Thomas E. Rogers, Robert D. Rogers, and Marilyn S. “Punky” Raney.

 

Funeral services will be held at Laughlin Service Funeral Home on Tuesday September 5th.  Visitation from 10am-Noon with the service immediately following.
