John Hugh Vinson age 76 of Athens, passed away Wednesday, December 28, 2016 at Athens Limestone Hospital. Mr. Vinson was born June 16, 1940 in Limestone County, AL to Elmer Louis Vinson and Lillie Mae Boyd Vinson.
Services will be Tuesday, January 3, 2017 2:00 p.m., at Limestone Chapel Funeral Home with Bill Irby officiating. Visitation will be Tuesday, from 1:00 p.m. until 1:45 p.m. prior to the service. Burial will be in Athens City Cemetery.
Mr. Vinson was a member of Hobbs Street Church of Christ. He was a retired Fireman and the first full time paid Fireman. He was an assistant Fire Chief and an avid amateur radio enthusiast.
Survived by his wife, Helen Richter Vinson of Athens; five sons, Michael Vinson and wife, Jeanne of Huntsville, AL, David Vinson of Madison, AL, Carl Vinson and wife, Symantha of Murfreesboro, TN, Don Vinson and wife, Shelley of San Marcos, TX and Glen Vinson and wife, Stephanie of Cummings, GA; 11 grandchildren and 1 great-grandchild.
Pallbearers will be Michael Vinson, David Vinson, Carl Vinson, Don Vinson, Glen Vinson and Tommy Davis.
