Rev. John Howard Gibbs, age 82, passed away Monday, July 5, 2021 at CaroMont Regional Medical Center in Gastonia, North Carolina.
Funeral services will be conducted at Good Springs Free Will Baptist Church in Pleasant View at 12:00PM on Saturday, July 10th, with his son, Rev. Darin Gibbs officiating. Burial will follow in Good Springs Cemetery with Ken Gibbs, Chris Cline, Easton Cline, Chris Dungan, Donnie Dungan, and Rob Hill serving as pallbearers.
The family will receive friends at the church on Saturday from 10:00AM until the hour of service at 12:00PM.
Rev. Gibbs was born on September 17, 1938 in St. Louis, Missouri to the late Marvin and Delma Short Gibbs. He faithfully served with his wife in his preaching and singing ministry for 60 years. He enjoyed traveling with his wife on many trips during his ministry. He was a member of the First Free Will Baptist Church in Gastonia, North Carolina.
In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by his loving wife of 61 years, Doris Barr Gibbs; siblings, Dwain Gibbs, JoAnn Gibbs, Charlotte Summers, and Vivian Cooke.
Survivors include his son, Reverend Darin (Kim) Gibbs; daughter, Julie (Chris) Cline; grandchildren, Easton & Krestyn Cline, Makenna, Julianna, Olivia, & Lyla Gibbs; his siblings, Ken (Shelley) Gibbs, Jim (Carol) Gibbs, Don Cooke, Joyce (Dale) Hollingshead, and a sister-in-law, Marsha Gibbs.
There will also be a visitation for friends from 4:30-6:30PM on Wednesday, July 7th at First Free Will Baptist Church in Gastonia, North Carolina followed with a Celebration of Life service at 6:30PM with his son, Rev. Darin Gibbs officiating.
