John H. Delongchamp, 72, of Huntsville, passed away on February 16, 2022. He was preceded in death by his father, Howard; mother, Alice; and brother, Mike. He is survived by his wife of 46 years, Barbara; sons, Andrew, Jimmy (Andrea), Paul; six grandchildren, Caleb, Ashlyn, Sarah, Jackson, Rylee, and Avery; his siblings, Mark (Mary-Ellen), Dave (Paula), Suzanne, and Julie (Eric); brother-in-law, Brian (Roberta); and sister-in-law, Bonnie (Don).
John was a kind, selfless, loving husband, father, sibling, and grandparent. He was active throughout all of his children’s lives including being involved in their athletics, school activities, Boy Scouts, and traveling with his family exploring the world. He simply loved making everyone around him happy. He was a true family man who made sure his wife and all of his family had everything they needed and made them feel loved. He routinely put everyone else’s needs before his own. He enjoyed the simple things in life and loved spending time with his family, traveling the world, history, working on his vehicles, the pool, and routinely worked on house projects.
He was raised in Detroit, MI and attended the University of Detroit and graduated in 1973. He was then commissioned into the U.S. Air Force and entered active duty with his first duty station at Maxwell Air Force Base in Montgomery, AL where he met his wife, Barbara, and they were wed. His next assignment was to attend graduate school at the University of Arizona where Andrew was born. Following graduation, he was assigned to Offutt AFB, NE where Jimmy was born. The family then decided to transition out of the Air Force and relocated to Huntsville, AL where all of the children were raised in the same home for over 20 years. John quickly excelled in Software Engineering where he enjoyed a long successful career working for Teledyne Brown, Raytheon, and other defense contractors developing critical systems for the military including the THAAD system, Space Shuttle, and International Space Station.
He is loved and missed. Visitation will be from 10-11 a.m. Monday, Feb. 21st, at Good Shepherd Catholic Church, Huntsville, AL with the service following at 11 a.m. Father Tim Pfander will officiate. Burial will be at Maple Hill Cemetery.
