John Garlen Mason, 87, of Phil Campbell passed away Wednesday, January 1, 2014, at Terrace Manor Nursing Home.
Mr. Mason was a lifelong resident of Franklin County and a retired security guard. He was a member and deacon at Mt. View Baptist Church, Phil Campbell, and a veteran of the U.S. Army.
The funeral service will be Saturday, January 4, 2014, at 11:00 a.m., at Mt. View Baptist Church, Phil Campbell, with burial in the adjoining cemetery. Officiating will be Sammy Taylor, Billy Thorn, and Bobby Joe Poss. The family will receive friends at the church on Friday, January 3, from 4:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m.
Survivors include wife, Bernice Welborn Mason; children, Wanda (Randy) Thompson, Littleville, Barbara (Terry) Pounders, Randy (LaWanda) Mason, all of Phil Campbell, Debbie (Chris) McGee, Arlington, Kentucky; eight grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by parents, John and Leatha Mitchell Mason; two sisters; and seven brothers.
