Mr. John G. Hill, age 79, husband of Marcella Hill, and a resident of Columbia, previously of the Santa Fe Community, passed away Wednesday, March 18, 2020 at his home with his loving family by his side.

A funeral service will be held on Saturday, March 21, 2020 at 10:00 AM at Heritage Funeral Home with Gary Baucom and Rickey South officiating. Burial will follow in Santa Fe Cemetery. A visitation will be held on Friday, March 20, 2020 from 4:00 – 8:00 PM at the funeral home. Heritage Funeral Home is assisting the family with arrangements.

John was born on March 20, 1940 in the Hilltown Community and was the son of the late James Francis Hill and the late Mary Elizabeth Wilson Hill. He attended Santa Fe School and retired from General Electric Company where he was Production Supervisor and from Columbia State Community College where he worked in Security. He was an avid horseman and his favorite thing to do was ride with his friends.

In addition to his wife he is survived by his son Johnny Blake Hill of Columbia; grandsons: Brandon Hill and Michael (Shelly) Hill, great granddaughters: Clara Hill, Riley Renee Hill, Johnna Hill; sister, Carolyn Hill Baucom of Columbia; multiple nieces and nephews; stepchildren: Glenn (Kathe) Brown, Angela R. (Kenny) Hay, Vicki (Ron) Shelton, Jackie (Michael) Burke; step grandchildren and step great grandchildren; and his long term care giver and best buddy, Chris Cates.

He was preceded in death by sisters, Mary Frances South, Emma Jean Ragsdale, Jenny Lee Williams, Katie Mae Eastep and Clara Griggs along with brother James “Jim” Hill.

Pallbearers will be: Kenny Hay, Ronald Shelton, Garry Baucom, Rickey South, Michael Burke, Jeff Hill and James Hill.

The family would like to extend a special thanks to Avalon Hopsice, Dr. Doug Kennedy and staff, baby sister Carolyn, his step children, Chris Cates, Nick Shearn and Marge McClure for their care and compassion for John during this difficult time.
