A Celebration of Life for Mr. John F. Godfrey, age 86 of Ashland, will be held on Saturday, July 9, 2022 at 2:00 P.M. at Benefield Funeral Home in Ashland. His visitation will take place from 12:00 P.M. until service time at 2:00 P.M.
Mr. Godfrey passed away on Tuesday, July 5, 2022 at his home. He was born in Moscow, Idaho, but grew up in Oklahoma until he went into the United State Air Force. While in the military, he served for 20 years as a Tech Sargent specializing in Radio Traffic Analysis. Once he honorably discharged from the military, he and his family lived in a couple of different states before settling in Clay County in 1981. He worked as a truck driver for Wellborn Cabinets for some time as well as driving a truck for himself. Mr. Godfrey enjoyed hunting, fishing, shooting his guns, and he could piddle and work on anything all day long. He was a hardworking man. In his 70’s He purchased a used camper and repaired it so that he and his family could travel. Mr. Godfrey was very honest and blunt man, and he always said what he meant. He was also a stubborn and hard headed man, but extremely kind hearted. Mr. Godfrey was a caring and giving man, and would give you the shirt off his back if you needed it. He was a loving Husband and Father to his children and grandchildren, and exceptionally loving to his fur baby, Susie.
Mr. Godfrey is survived by his wife of 60 years, Joyce Godfrey of Ashland; two daughters: Jenobie Jones (Winfred) and Missy Pace (Tim), both of Ashland; two sons: John Godfrey II (Sherri) of Monroe, GA and John Moffett of Palm Springs, CA; 13 grandchildren, 25 great-grandchildren, and one great-great grandchild on the way; 4 sisters: Ella Kay Harmon of Ashland, KS, Erma Dreas of Odum, GA, Joyce Zehner of Colorado Springs, CO, and Cindy Percival of Alva, OK, plus a host of nieces, nephews, and a large extended family.
He is preceded in death by his parents: Russell Sylvester and Ella Katie McGee Godfrey; one daughter, Carla Hewitt; one son, Jason Godfrey; his first grandchild, Windy Odum Zarrabel; one brother, Ralph Godfrey; and his son in law, Rex Odum.
