John Eugene Thomas, 68, of Huntsville, AL passed away at his home on Monday, October 19, 2015 after a long illness. John was preceded in death by his parents, Willard Cullen Thomas and Oma Wales Thomas.
Survivors include his wife of 34 years, Karen Watson Thomas; daughter, Shannon Thomas Pilleteri and her husband, Lee; grandchildren, Frances Nicole Pilleteri and Lee Anthony Pilleteri IV; sister, Norma Henry; niece, Sherry Hall; great-niece, Lauren Hall; great-nephew, Brandon Hall and wife, Jolayne; and great-great niece, Libby Hall.
A native of Huntsville, John graduated from Butler High School in 1965. He received an A.A. degree in Business Administration from Snead College and a BS Degree in Business Administration from Athens College. John served in the National Guard as a Sergeant in the Signal Corps.
John worked with Huntsville City for 32 years. He served as fiscal agent and grant manager for Top of Alabama Regional Council of Governments. John was Director of Purchasing for Huntsville City and Administrative Assistant to Mayor Joe Davis. In addition, he was vice-president of Huntsville Utilities until retirement in 2007. During John’s tenure with Huntsville Utilities, several major projects were completed under his direction.
John was a loving and caring husband, father, brother and friend. He was devoted to his family and community. The time he spent with his family, grandchildren, and friends will be greatly missed.
Visitation will be held from 1 to 2 p.m. Wednesday, October 21 at First United Methodist Church. A graveside service will follow at 2:30 at Maple Hill Cemetery.
