John Edward Beer, age 81 of Cedar Bluff, passed away on Saturday, February 7, 2026 at his residence. He was born on September 1, 1944 in Geneva, Ohio to the late Edward & Virginia Stimpson Beer. After high school John served in the United States Air Force. After his honorable discharge he pastored for 30 years at numerous churches, was the Chaplain at Orange County Jail in Florida and taught Sunday School at Minvale Baptist Church of Fort Payne. He was a past member of Minvale Baptist Church and current member of Pine Grove Baptist Church in Centre, Alabama.
Funeral services will be 12 noon, Wednesday, February 11, 2026 at the Wilson Funeral Home Chapel. The family will receive friends on Wednesday from 10 a.m. until the 12 noon hour of service. A Graveside service will be at 12:30 EST, Thursday, February 12, 2026 at the Chattanooga National Cemetery with military honors. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorial contributions to St. Jude Children’s Hospital.
He is survived by his wife of 61 years, Veronica Machleit Beer; children, John Edward Beer, II and Kimberley McGahey; sisters, Jeanne, Jane, Janice, and Jo Anne; grandchildren, Michelle, Destiny and Brandy; and five great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his son, Edward Beer; and parents, Edward & Virginia Beer.
