John Echols Gann – Obituary

johnJohn Echols Gann, 91, of Huntsville passed away September 8, 2015. Mr. Gann, a native of Hamilton, Alabama, was a graduate of Hamilton High School. He served in World War II as General George S. Patton’s escort throughout France and Germany. After the war, he moved to Huntsville, where he worked on Redstone Arsenal for over thirty years. He was employed by Boeing, Medtherm, and retired from Thiokol Corporation in 1989.

Mr. Gann is survived by his wife of 62 years, Beth Phillips Gann, daughters Susan Gann Cole and husband Rodney; Christi Gann Trucks and husband Wayne; grandsons Jack Carvalho III and Gann Trucks all of Birmingham. He is also survived by a sister, Etta Gann Warf, of Nashville, Tennessee, and several nieces and nephews.

Visitation will be from 11 A.M. to 1 P.M., with the service immediately following at 1 P.M., Thursday, September 10th at Laughlin Service Funeral Home. Private family burial will be at Huntsville Memorial Gardens.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to The John Echols Gann Endowed C&BA Scholarship at The University of Alabama, Office of University Advancement, P.O. Box 870122, Tuscaloosa, AL, 35487.
