Mr. John Earl Petty was born on December 29, 1945, in Fayetteville, Tennessee, to the late Jessie Lee Petty and Agatha Ruth Taylor. He was also reared by his stepmother, Earlene Smith Petty of New Market, AL. He transitioned from this life on October 11, 2023, in Huntsville, AL. He was preceded in death by five brothers: Louvelle Donalson Taylor, Sr., Felix Monroe, Thomas Claude, James Larry, and Lynn Mitchell Petty; three sisters: Lisa, Laurel, and Windy Petty.
John was a custodian at Alabama A&M University, where he worked for many years until his retirement.
John Earl leaves to cherish his memory: a loving wife, Ester Petty; two sons: James Earl (Martha) and Timothy Petty, both of Houston, TX; two grandchildren: James Earl, Jr. and Timothy Martin; three brothers: James Clarence Petty (Amy) and Titus Petty, both of Huntsville, AL, and Levi Petty of Athens, AL of Athens, AL; five sisters: Jessee Pearl and Lucille Petty, both of Huntsville, AL, Theresa Culbertson, Clara Mae Petty, both of Houston, TX and Kathye Massey of Fayetteville, TN; a host of loving nephews, nieces, cousins, relatives, and friends.
Memorial service will be held privately by the family at a later date.
