John Dexter Huber was born on November 29, 1936 and died March 29, 2015.
John was married to Elizabeth Faye Huber for 23 years.
He was the son of Henry and Mable Huber, father of eight children, two of which preceded him in death, one step-daughter, and several grandchildren. He is survived by a sister, Marge Walter of Michigan.
He retired honorably from the Huntsville Police Department in 1998 after 16 years of service.
He was a member of the Northside Baptist Church in Huntsville, Alabama.
John was a humble man, always putting others before himself. He liked to tinker – there wasn’t any piece of equipment that he could not repair. He would work at it until it would be running the way he thought it should. He always found a use for everything – nothing was ever wasted when John was around.
He and Faye loved to travel and enjoyed trips to Hawaii, Arizona, Yellowstone, Wyoming, Canada, Mexico, Jamaica, Bahamas, South Dakota, Utah and Alaska.
John enjoyed fishing and gardening and raised a wonderful garden as long as he was physically able.
John was stricken with Parkinson’s disease about 18 years ago; with a mild case that accelerated rapidly every ensuing year. As long as he was coherent he fought to maintain as normal a lifestyle as possible, riding a motorized scooter until he was no longer in control of his faculties and became confined to bed. As long as he was sick, John never uttered a complaint about his health situation.
His attitude of acceptance and faith in God’s will for his life was never challenged.
