John David Burroughs, 71, of Decatur, died Thursday at Decatur Morgan Hospital. He was a member of Pepper Road Church of Christ, served as Deacon at Marion Street and Market Street Church. David was dedicated to his church, loving God as his guide. He loved his wife, Patsy dearly for 52 years, two sons, Brad and wife, Kerry and Bryan, who preceded David in death at age 28. He had four beautiful grandchildren whom he dearly adored: Noah, Adam, Ashleigh and Alyson; brothers, Leslie Burroughs and wife, Betty of Lebanon, Tennessee, Jerry Burroughs and wife, Patricia of Rogersville, Lanier Burroughs of Anderson, Donnie Burroughs and wife, Kathy of Athens, Lester Burroughs and wife, Teresa of Rogersville.
He retired from Electronics Distribution after 34 years, with 15 years in contract manufacturing for the Aerospace Industry. Served as PTA President of Athens Middle School, served on Athens City Council from 1980-1984 where he was council Pro-Tem, President of Athens High Booster Club, Martin College Booster Club active member. David worked so hard in setting the good examples for others as he strived in serving others faithfully. He expected much from his employees and treated all fairly with honor and dignity. Patsy, I could not ever appreciate you enough for being the lady, mother, and spouse, during our 50- plus years we had together. You made me a better person by being my mate and partner. I pray that your days ahead will be of ease and think of our memories together. I know you will never lose your faith. Services will be 1 p.m. Monday at Spry Funeral Home Chapel with John Gibson, Kasey Harbin officiating. Burial will be in Roselawn Cemetery. Visitation will be Sunday from 6 to 9 p.m. at the funeral home.
Preceded in death by parents, Raymond and Ora Lee Burroughs. Pallbearers will be Mike Brower, Mike Quenneville, Trevor Bowen, Al Dickson, James Hough, Caleb George.
Honorary pallbearers will be Sam Gossett, Leonard Westbrook, Adam Bradley Burroughs, Noah Tyler Burroughs.
