John Daniel “Dan” Woods, of Albertville, was born January 14, 1940, and was called to his heavenly home on July 14, 2026.
Dan was a faithful member of Brasher’s Chapel Church, where he played the bass guitar and sang in the church choir for many years. He greeted everyone with a smile, a handshake, a hug, and words of encouragement. He loved his church family. He loved Southern Gospel music and played his bass guitar and sang with many local Southern Gospel groups throughout the years.
Dan’s hobby was working. He started working to support himself at age 15. He worked hard and took great pride in a job well done. For many years, he worked for Tom’s and Lance, delivering snacks to many stores throughout northeast Alabama. He also made deliveries for Colonial Bread. The “computer era” came, and he wanted no part of that. He was a “handwritten ticket” man. He retired from Lance at the age of 62.
But he did not stay retired for long. He started working as a custodian at Boaz Elementary School. After a few years, he retired again—but not for long. He worked as a custodian at Marshall Christian School, Claysville School in Marshall County, and filled in at various other schools throughout Marshall County before retiring from custodial work at the age of 75. He continued mowing lawns for others until the day he went into the hospital on Saturday, June 13, 2026, with shortness of breath. Tests revealed three major heart blockages. Due to other health issues and his overall health, surgery was not an option. He was sent home to live the best quality of life possible under the care of Shepherd’s Cove Hospice. He visited with and enjoyed the company of many family, friends, and loved ones at home during his final days on earth.
Survivors include his wife of 45 years, Glenda Minor Peppers Woods; daughters, Malinda (Jeff) Harris, Regina (Larry “Sam”) Gregory, and Bridget (Sidney) Massey; grandchildren, Jessica Hammett, Eric (Lukita) Hammett, Aaron Garrison, Danielle (Steven) Young, Seth Garrison, Andrea (Zachary) Moore, Ryan Scott, Clay (Courtney) Massey, and Cody Massey; many great-grandchildren; brothers- and sisters-in-law; nieces; nephews; and cousins.
Dan was preceded in death by his parents, John William and Alameda Lakita Walker Woods; stepmother, Pauline Woods; daughters, Louanne Germany and Deeanna Williams; granddaughter, Amber Abney; sister, Dorothy “Dot” Baker; and brother, Doug (Nancy) Bearden.

The family will receive friends from 10:00 until 11:00 a.m. prior to the service. Burial will follow at Brasher’s Chapel Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to Brasher’s Chapel Church or Shepherd’s Cove Hospice of Marshall County in honor of Dan’s memory.
