F.10.27.23 John Clement.jpg John Dabney Clement, Jr., died on the 25th day of October, 2023, at his home at the age of 89. The family will have visitation from 3:00 to 5:00 p.m. Sunday, October 29, 2023 at Morrison Funeral Home in Tuscumbia. A funeral service will be held at Grace Episcopal Church in Sheffield, Alabama on October 30, 2023 at 1:00 p.m. with a graveside service following at Oakwood Cemetery in Sheffield, Alabama.

He was preceded in death by his father, John Dabney Clement, Sr.; mother, Martha Cammack Clement; by his wife, Helen Sedenquist Clement; and his granddaughter, Kelsey Helen Durkin.

He is survived by his wife, Julie Robbins Clement; a daughter, Laura Clement Durkin and husband, Jay Durkin of New Canaan, Connecticut, and a daughter, Lynn Johanne Clement of Dallas, Texas, as well as two grandchildren, Charles Clement Durkin and Abigail Martha Archer; stepchildren, Al Gamble (Camille) and Chad Gamble (Whitney); and stepgrandchildren, Caroline, Maggie, Olivia, and Lillian Gamble.

John was born on September 21, 1934, and lived most of his life in Colbert County, Alabama except for service in the U.S. Navy and University of Alabama Law School. He attended public schools in Sheffield and Tuscumbia, Morgan Military Academy in Petersburg, Tennessee, and graduated from Florence State Teachers College (UNA). After graduating from the United States Navy’s Officer Candidate School in Newport, Rhode Island, he served on active duty in the U.S. Navy from June of 1956 through June of 1958. John then graduated from the University of Alabama School of Law with a Juris Doctorate Degree and practiced law in Colbert County, Alabama from January 1961 until several years before his death, retiring only when his health forced him to do so. He was licensed and practiced law in State and Federal Courts in Alabama. He proudly represented the City of Muscle Shoals as a lawyer in many of his formative years, the Muscle Shoals Electric Board since incorporation in 1963, and the North Alabama Gas Board since inception in 1972, faithfully and respectively, until recently.
