John Culbert Youngs – Obituary

John Culbert Youngs, 67, of Huntsville, AL passed away Thursday following a courageous battle with cancer. John was born in Miami, FL to the late Charles and Charlotte Youngs and graduated from Miami Springs High School. He received his Bachelor’s Degree from Centre College and Master’s Degree from Boston University. John served 13 years in active Army and 9 years in Army Reserve and retired as Lieutenant Colonel. In 2004, John was promoted to Chief of Defense Information Systems Agency, Huntsville and retired in 2010 with 40 years of combined military and civil service. John was active member of First United Methodist Church, Kiwanis Club of Huntsville, volunteer tax preparer at Senior Center, Kairos prison ministry at Limestone Prison, and Walk to Emmaus. He enjoyed working his home business for over 20 years, Shaklee Nutritional Wellness. John especially enjoyed traveling and visited over 49 countries around the world and did scuba diving in many of these locations.
John is survived by his wife, Debbie, Huntsville, AL; brother, Robert Youngs, Miami Springs, FL; sister, Bonnie Willson, Huntsville, AL; and stepmother, Lee Powell Youngs, Yanceyville, N.C .
Visitation will be Sunday, May 22, at First United Methodist Church from 1:30 – 3:00 pm. The Memorial Service will follow at 3 pm.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to First United Methodist Church, 120 Greene Street, Huntsville, AL 35801.
