John Comer Hamm, Jr., 71, of Sheffield passed away Saturday, November 25, 2017. Visitation will be Tuesday, November 28, at 10:00 .a.m. until 10:30 a.m. at Annapolis Avenue Church of Christ, Sheffield. A memorial service will follow at 10:30 a.m. at the church with Terry Jones officiating and family members sharing memories.
John was a member at Annapolis Avenue Church of Christ, having served as a deacon and an elder over the years at sister congregations. As a young man, he joined his father in the family business, J.C. Hamm & Sons Heating and Air. He opened John Hamm Service Co. in the 80’s and later moved his family to central Florida and worked for Coleman, Inc. and Coastline Dist. until retirement. He was a Florence City Commissioner in the late 70’s serving as the Police and Fire Commissioner. He served in the 115th Signal Battalion in Florence for 14 years in the 60’s-70’s. He was a 1963 graduate of Mars Hill Bible School and attended Auburn University and Florence State College.
He was preceded in death by his parents, J.C. and Mary Frances Hamm.
He is survived by his wife of 53 years, Rebecca Biggs Hamm, sons, John “Shawn” Hamm and wife Kimberly and Kevin Hamm, grandchildren Blake Hamm, Hope Love and Jordan Bolton (Matt), great-grandchildren, Bentley, Jayce and Grayson, brothers, Rick Hamm (Sandra) and Greg Hamm (Shirley).
The family would like to thank the doctors, Irons, Heaton, Morris, and Borgoo, ECM Emergency, and the ECM CCU nurses who were so caring and attentive.
