John Clyde “J.C.” Coates – Obituary

John Clyde “J.C.” Coates, age 83, of Killen, died Monday, Nov. 24, 2014. Visitation will be today, Nov. 26th from noon until 2 p.m. at Spry~Williams Funeral Home, of Florence. The service will follow at 2 p.m. in the funeral home chapel, with Brother David McKelvey and Terry Thomas officiating. Burial will be at Killen Cemetery. Pallbearers will be family and friends.

He was a member of Killen Baptist Church, and was retired with Foundry of the Shoals, and worked at E.C.M. Hospital as a guard. He was also a U.S. Navy veteran having served in the Korean War. Mr. Coates was a member of the Elks Lodge #820, VFW, American Legion Post #11 as an Honor Guard, and Moose Lodge.

Preceded in death were his parents, James and Mary Coats, three brothers, one grandchild, and two great-grandchildren.

Survivors are his wife, Ruby Grissom; daughters, Redia Gulley and Jamie Cox; son, Phillip Williams; brother, Roy Coats; one granddaughter; two grandsons; and one great-grandson.
