Funeral Services for Mr. John C. McVey Jr, age 72 of Sylacauga, will be held on Saturday, April 13, 2024 at 11:00 A.M. at Pleasant Hill Methodist Protestant Bible Church with Bro. John Luckie officiating. Burial will follow in the adjoin cemetery.
Mr. McVey passed away on Sunday, April 7, 2024 at Coosa Valley Medical Center in Sylacauga. He was born in Alexander City, and lived most of his life between Clay County and some time in Florida. Mr. McVey worked as a pulpwooder, Truck Driver, and sawmill worker for several companies, including Dan Shaddix, Richard Kytan, Tommy Sellers and Bama Wood for most of his life. He enjoyed working on and tinkering with cars in his spare time, tending to his garden, and traveling with his late wife, Viola. He also raised several barnyard animals and loved to grill out and have fish fry’s. Mr. McVey had a great sense of humor, loved telling tall tales to his friends and family, and loved to hold conversations with anyone. He never met a stranger, and gave Southern Goodbyes.
Mr. McVey is survived by his daughters: Cindy Lacey (Johnnie) of Ashland and Wendy Prescott (Kenny) of Lake City, FL; his sons: John Scottie McVey and Rickey McVey, both of Alex City, Samuel Eugene “Dean” Brown of Talladega and Danny Brown of Ashland; 13 grandchildren, 22 great-grandchildren, and one great-great grandchild; one brother, William McVey (Luvinue) of Wadley, plus other extended family.
He was preceded in death by his parents: John C. McVey Sr. and Louise Strickling McVey; his wife, Viola Frances McVey; one granddaughter, Terri Jo Brown; and one brother, Charles Clifton McVey.
Active Pallbearers will be John Lacey, Timmy Noland, Ryan Noland, Aaron Prescott, Eric Prescott, Cody McVey, Christian Adams, and Rickey McVey.
His visitation will take place on Saturday, April 13, 2024 at Pleasant Hill Methodist Protestant Bible Church from 10:00 A.M. until service time at 11:00 A.M.
