John C. Davis, III passed away peacefully at his home in Toney, Alabama, on July 31, 2025, at the age of 74.
Born on December 22, 1950, to John C. Davis, Jr. and Mattie E. Davis, John lived a life rooted in faith, family, and education. In 1971, he married the love of his life, Audrey Davis, with whom he shared 54 years of marriage and raised two sons: John Davis (Pamela) and Robert Davis (Denise). He was a devoted grandfather to six wonderful grandchildren and a proud great-grandfather to seven darling great-grandchildren.
John was the beloved brother of Norina Davis (deceased) and Earl Davis Sr. (Thomasine), and is survived by a large and loving extended family—including uncles, aunts, nephews, cousins, and countless cherished friends.
He graduated from Takoma Academy in Takoma Park, Maryland, and went on to earn a Bachelor of Science in Mathematics from Oakwood College (now Oakwood University) in Huntsville, Alabama. He later completed both his Master’s and Ph.D. at the University of South Florida in Tampa. A gifted educator, John served for many years as a Professor in the Mathematics Department at Oakwood University, where he inspired generations of students with his passion for learning and his steady, encouraging presence.
Outside of his academic pursuits, John found joy in the simple things: watching spiritual programs and game shows, chatting with his sons and grandchildren, listening to uplifting music, and studying the Bible. He was known for his warmth, his distinctive laugh, and his famously corny jokes—especially beloved by his wife.
John will be remembered for his kindness, his deep biblical knowledge, his daily devotionals, and the unconditional love he gave to those around him.
He passed away peacefully, held in the arms of his devoted wife. He now rests in Jesus, awaiting that great Resurrection morning. His legacy of faith, love, and learning will live on in all who knew and loved him.
