John “Big John” Schroder – Obituary

John “Big John” Schroder, age 71, of Toone, departed this life Tuesday, June 5, 2018 at Jackson-Madison County General Hospital.

The husband of Tina Maria Schroder, who survives, he was a farmer while living in Florida, and was former owner of L&S Supples, having now been retired. He was born October 30, 1946 In New York, NY, son of the late Walt Linus and Asunta “Sue” Troina Schroder and had also worked as a Captain in commercial fishing, supervising 5-6 crew members. He served in the US Navy for 2 years and enjoyed flying and building radio control airplanes, hosting a summer camp for children from all over the world. His family states that he had a great attitude about everything. He moved to Hardeman County in 2007 from Brookville, Florida.

In addition to his wife, whom he had been with since 2001 and married on April 6, 2013, survivors include two stepdaughters, Lisa Rodgers of Tampa, FL and Amy Stevens (Austin) of Dade City, FL; two sisters, Susan Sparro (Sal) of Las Vegas, NV and Karen Keeler (Dave) of West Virginia; two brothers, Walter “Butch” Schroder (Jean) of New Jersey and Anthony Schroder (Diana) of New York; an aunt, Sister Dominica Troina; three grandchildren, Lindsey Steele, Kaitlyn Rodgers and Carson Rodgers; and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; a daughter, Erica Steele in 2009 and a son, Keith Schroder in 2011. The family requests memorial donations in his name be made to any youth organization or any animal shelter.
