Logo IconJohn B. Owens Jr. was March 15, 1930 in Hillsboro, Alabama to the late John B. Owens, Sr. and Ora Owens. He accepted the Lord at a young age and was united to a Baptist Church in Hillsboro, Alabama. He graduated from Tennessee Valley High School in 1948 and later joined the US Army and National Guard, where he served for several years. Shortly, afterward, he moved to Oakland, California. He united with Allen Temple Baptist Church in Oakland where he met and married Hazel Waters. They were married for 65 years and this union produced four children. Marvin Owen, Barbara Gistand( Jesse), Regina Owens, and Christopher Owens.

 

John served faithfully in ministry for many ears, working with several churches before united with Acts Full gospel Church. He was ordained as an elder at acts Full Gospel where he continue the work of the Lord. His service included 30 years in Prison Ministry, as well as the Convalescent Ministry, SWAT Ministry, Sunday School Teaching, Intercessory Prayer Ministry, Foundation teacher and the Altar Workers team. He worked for General Motors as a mechanic and retired from AC Transit as a bus driver. His hobbies were studying God’s word, gardening, traveling and taking long walks.

 

He was preceded in death by his loving wife Hazel Owens, four sisters, six brothers and his two sons; Marvin Owens and Christopher Owens.

He leaves to cherish his memory, one sibling Lillie Mae Robinson, two daughters, Barbara Gistand (Jesse) and Regina Owens: nine grandchildren, 13 great-grandchildren and and a host of nieces, nephews, and cousns, and friends
