John “Anthony” Davis Jr., 39, of Cullman, died Friday, June 13, 2014, in Athens. He was born Dec. 28, 1974, in Huntsville to John and Sandra Davis.
Anthony was a talented songwriter and musician who loved his Weimaraner Lola and his nieces and nephews, who all called him their favorite uncle. A Clements High School graduate, he held college degrees in operatic voice, marketing and public relations, and electronics technology. He loved debating science and philosophy, he was an excellent cook, and he could always make you laugh with his offbeat humor.
He was preceded in death by his grandparents, Roy and Sarah Davis and Clifford and Tula Dean.
He is survived by his wife, Amanda Shavers Davis; his parents, John and Sandra Davis of Athens; two brothers, Nathan Davis and wife Rebekah, and Josh Davis and wife Leigh, both of Athens; his parents-in-law, James and Suzanne Shavers of Cullman; five nephews, Brody, Ben, Coleby and John Steven Davis, all of Athens, and James Christopher Lino of Marietta, Ga.; three nieces, Kallista Shavers of Cullman and Marley and Mattie Davis of Athens; and a host of adoring aunts, uncles, cousins and friends.
Services will be at 2 p.m. Monday at Spry Funeral Home with Richard Chandler, Roger Patrick and Odis Duncan officiating. Visitation will be from 6 until 9 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home. Burial will be in Limestone Memorial Gardens.
Pallbearers will be Randy Harris, Tim Harris, Steve Davis, Jonathan Dean, Andrew Dean, Adam Dean, Mike Chandler and Chris Chandler.
