Joey E. Oden – Obituary

Mr. Joey E. Oden, 65, of Tuscumbia, Alabama, passed away at his residence Monday, May 21, 2018. He was a faithful member of St. Paul Missionary Baptist Church where he was a deacon, and served as both a Sunday School and Bible Studies teacher. He was a member of the St. Paul Missionary Baptist Church Relay for Life team and served on the Event Leadership Committee for the Franklin County Relay for Life. He was also the photographer for Fishers of Men National Tournament Trail, NW Alabama Division. Mr. Oden retired as Senior VP of Information Technology for Bank Independent after 40 years of service. In his spare time, he enjoyed beekeeping and leather crafting. Most enjoyable to him was the time he spent camping with his family.
Visitation with family and friends will be Wednesday, May 23, 2018 from 6:00 – 8:00 P.M. at Pinkard Funeral Home, Russellville. Funeral services will be held Thursday, May 24, 2018 at St. Paul Missionary Baptist Church at 11:00 A.M. with John Humphres and Rickey Phifer officiating. The body will lie in state one hour prior to service time. Burial will be in the adjoining church cemetery. Pallbearers will be Justin Wimberley, Michael Pounders, Andy Pounders, Barry Pounders, Joey Wimberley, and Larry Dover.
Mr. Oden is survived by his wife, Sherry Pounders Oden; his mother, Rammie Thorne Oden; children, April Seay and husband Shane; and Jered Oden and wife Kristy. Two granddaughters also survive him: Addison Grace Oden and Hadley Faith Oden. Other survivors include his brother-in-law, Barry Pounders and wife Joyce; sister-in-law, Belinda Wimberley and husband Joey; step mother-in-law Marge Pounders; nephews: Michael Pounders and wife Kristan, Andy Pounders, Justin Wimberley and wife Ashton; great nieces: Elizabeth Pounders, Ella Blayke Wimbeley; great nephew Dax Wimberley; step sister-in-law JoAnn Sparks and her son, Shawn Sparks. Numerous cousins and friends also survive him.
He was preceded in death by his father, Wallace Clifton “Jack” Oden and his father-in-law, Orval “Pug” Pounders.
The family wishes to express their deep gratitude to the UAB Cardiac Care Unit and to Kindred Hospice and MK Infusions for their care and attention to our loved one.
