A Funeral Service for Joel L. Cole will be Tuesday, November 7, 2023 at Gospel Light Baptist Church beginning at 10:00 AM CST (11:00 AM EST) with Pastor Jodie Cole and Pastor Micah Williams officiating. Burial will follow at Melrose Hills Memorial Garden in Villa Rica, GA beginning at 1:30 PM CST (2:30 PM EST).

Mr. Cole was born in Georgia and raised his family there before moving to Clay County 10 years ago. He was a Vietnam Veteran and worked for nearly 20 years in the aircraft industry and also running heavy equipment. Mr. Cole loved life on the farm, using the tractor for gardening and erecting a wide variety of blue topped buildings for every activity or hobby that needed space. He also attended Gospel Light Baptist Church. He loved his family and spoiled the grandchildren whenever he could.

He is survived by his wife of 51 years, JoAnn Webster Cole of Cragford; two sons, Jodie (Brandy) Cole of Wedowee and Jason Cole of Ranburne; eight grandchildren, Madeline (Jacob), Rachel, Phebe, Samuel, Audrey, Carter, Elijah and Levi; three sisters, Darcile (James) Austin of Dallas, GA, Edna (Marvin) Moss of Temple, GA and Mary (Brian) Beatty of Temple, GA; two brothers, James (Darlene) Cole of Temple, GA and Alfred Cole of Alpharetta, GA; sister-in-law, Sharon Cole of Buchanan, GA; several nieces, nephews and other extended family members and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents Joseph Grover Cole and Helen Gillard Cole and two brothers, Daniel Cole and Pete Cole.

Pallbearers will be Carter Cole, Samuel Cole, Elijah Cole, Levi Cole, Jacob Ussery and Noah Dabbs.

No flowers but the family asks donations be made to Missions Project of Gospel Light Baptist Church, PO Box 217, Lineville, AL 36266.

Visitation will be Monday from 5-7 CST (6-8 EST) at Benefield Funeral Home in Lineville, AL.

Benefield Funeral Home of Lineville is in charge of the arrangements.
