Joe Shelton was born January 16, 1930 in Junction City, KY and died on December 30, 2016 at his home. Mr. Shelton was a veteran of the United States Navy, a graduate with a Bachelor of Science degree from Eastern Kentucky University and earned a Master of Science degree from the University of Kentucky. Mr. Shelton retired from the U. S. Army Missile Command, he was a charter member and deacon at North Hills Christian Church and he was also a longtime member of First Christian Church. Mr. Shelton is survived by his wife of 62 years Martha High Shelton; son Dr. Robert Shelton of Knoxville, TN; daughter Laura Pfeffer (Charles) of Columbus, GA and grandchildren Christina and Matthew Pfeffer. He was predeceased by his parents Drury and Lina Elswick Sheton and siblings Montgomery, Vaughn, Bentley, Donald, Russell, Earnest, Ruby Ann, Lawrence and Jean Shelton. He will be missed for his keen wit, love of family, baking and carpentery. Visitation will be held Tuesday, January 3, 2017 at Hampton Cove Funeral Home from 10:00 to 11:00 am. His funeral service will follow at 11:00 with burial in the adjoining cemetery. I remember Joe as a nice young man when he came with Russell to visit relatives many years ago.
