Funeral for Joe Grant Sharp, 85, of Decatur will be Wednesday, May 21, 2014, at 11 a.m. at Roselawn Funeral Home with Brother Jeff Sellers officiating. Burial will be in Roselawn Cemetery. Visitation will be tonight from 6 to 8 at the funeral home.
Mr. Sharp, who died Sunday, May 18, 2014, at Decatur Morgan Hospital, was born October 11, 1928, in Somerville to Donnie Alvie Sharp and Alice Marshall Sharp. He was a 1947 graduate of Priceville High School and a Korean War veteran. He retired from Wolverine after 41 years of service. Mr. Sharp was a member of Ninth Street United Methodist Church. He was an avid camper, woodworker and gardener. He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife of 57 years, Mary Jean Grantland Sharp; and brothers and sisters, Cleo Sharp, Conley Sharp, Berford Sharp, Wayne Sharp, Edward Sharp, Grafton Sharp, Curtis Sharp, Elmyra Lemmond, Elaine Medlen, Gertrude Grantland and Pauline Turney.
Survivors include one son, J. Michael Sharp (Gail) of Decatur; one daughter, Renee Sparkman (Maurice “Recie”) of Hartselle; three grandchildren, Marinda Speakman (Eric), Justin McMurrain (Katy) and Michelle Landry (Jace); five great-grandchildren, Kiley, Matthew, Cam, Layla and Cole; and special friend, Jane Winton.
Pallbearers will be Bob Ralph, Deryl, Sharp, Cecil Berry, Richard Aldridge and Carlton Turney.
Memorials may be made to Caregivers of the Valley, a division of Hospice of the Valley.
