Joe Glenn Lougheed was born on Monday, July 25th, 1949 in Denver, Colorado. Those who met Joe would say their life changed that day because he would become an integral part of so many lives. Whatever name you knew him by would complement his unpretentious name of “Joe” as he wore many hats during his journey here on earth. He was Joe the son. Joe the brother. Soldier Joe. Grandpa Joe Joe. Chief Joe. Stoic Joe. And, of course, Connie’s Joe. As you would gather from these monikers, Joe’s life was one of service.

As a young man, he became a soldier in the US Army and served in Viet Nam as a member of the Military Police. He began his firefighting career with Huntsville City Fire Department and bravely served for 33 years, eventually retiring as Chief of Training. There are many stories to be shared about all of the practical jokes played on Chief Joe, pushing his patience to the limit, but only giving up a roll of his eyes if the practical jokers really got to him.

In his free time, he enjoyed nothing more than putting a line in the water to hook whatever the catch of the day might be. Traveling was also one of the many things he enjoyed—by ship, airplane, or camper. Connie’s Joe loved working with his hands. One of his many talents was being an all-around handy man, fixer, and builder. And that’s a good thing due to all his wife’s projects, honey-do’s, and honey-don’ts. Joe will also be remembered for the many gatherings he and Connie hosted over the years. Always the consummate host, he entertained guests at the Tiki, sharing stories, fun and laughter. Here’s to you, Joe! Cheers until we meet again!

Joe passed away on March 5th, 2024 at the age of 74. He was preceded in death by his parents, Earl and Margaret Lougheed, and two of his sons, Scott Lougheed and Christian Broadway. Joe leaves this life survived by his wife and partner in crime, Connie Broadway Lougheed, sisters Judy Lougheed and Cindy Brookhouser (John Brookhouser) and their children. He also leaves behind his children, William Broadway, Jr., LeeAnn Broadway Smith (Chris Smith), Vicky Lougheed (Joe Desabla), Lori Lougheed and Stephanie Wilbanks. Joe will be especially missed by his grandchildren, Halee Smith Elder (Brandon Elder), Tai Smith, Adah Smith, Sage Smith, Angel Broadway Slater, Emily Staplers, Tyler Staplers, Annilee Lougheed, Amanda Maxfield, Madelyn Desabla, and Jacob Desabla and great-granddaughters Oaklee Ann Elder and Lennon Jolee Elder.

Visitation will be from 12pm – 1pm on Monday, March 11th at Building Church, 845 Slaughter Road. Services will immediately follow at 1pm with Pastor Spencer Beach officiating. Services will include U.S. Military Honors and Firefighter Honor Guard.
