Joe Gene Lumpkin, 81, went home to be with his Lord on Wednesday, July 22, 2026, at his home in New Albany, MS. Born on April 17, 1945, in Alcorn County, he was the son of the late J.F. Lumpkin and Overa Jones Lumpkin. Joe proudly served in the U.S. Army, including combat service along the Korean DMZ. In 1977, he married Emilie Shotts, and together they raised their children to know and love the Lord. Joe was a devoted born-again Christian whose faith in Jesus Christ was the foundation of his life, as he sought to love his family and serve others.
He is survived by his beloved wife, Nora Emilie Shotts Lumpkin, his sons, Michael Lumpkin (Kathy), David Lumpkin (Dreama), Kyle Lumpkin (Rena), and Joseph Lumpkin (Darcy), his daughters, Karla Rodgers (Terry) and Kim McFarling (Steve), his sisters, Ann Taylor and Maxine Willis, 24 grandchildren, and 5 great-grandchildren with two more on the way.
In addition to his parents, Joe was preceded in death by his brothers, Gary Lumpkin and J.W. Lumpkin, his sister, Geraldine Orman, and his daughter, Tracy Upton.
Funeral Services will be held on Friday, July 24, 2026, at 12PM at Wells Chapel Church with visitation beginning at 11AM. Bro. Terry Rodgers will officiate. Burial will follow in Wells Chapel Church Cemetery.
Pallbearers will be Gabriel and Ben Lumpkin, William Upton, Jonathan, Brayden, and Jayden Lumpkin.
