Joe Don GibbsJoe Don Gibbs, 73, former owner and office manager for Columbia Neon and resident of Dowell Branch Road, died Wednesday, February 6, 2019 at Maury Regional Medical Center.

Funeral services will be conducted Sunday at 2:00 P.M. at Oakes & Nichols Funeral Home with Reverend Terry Peery officiating. Burial will follow in Polk Memorial Gardens with military honors provided by the Herbert Griffin American Legion Post #19. The family will visit with friends Saturday from 5:00 – 8:00 P.M. at the funeral home.

The family suggests memorials be made to West Point Cumberland Presbyterian Church, 1533 Theta Pike, Columbia, TN 38401. Condolences may be extended online at www.oakesandnichols.com.

Born October 29, 1945 in Weakly County, He was the son of the late Joe Almus Gibbs and the late Rebecca Collins Gibbs. He was graduate of Columbia Military Academy and attended Martin College and the University of Tennessee at Knoxville. Mr. Gibbs enjoyed playing all sports, especially pickleball. He attended West Point Cumberland Presbyterian Church.

Survivors include his wife, Sharon Eskew Gibbs of Columbia; children, Courtney (Garry) Love of Mt. Pleasant; David (Rebecca) Gibbs of Columbia; Melanie (Eric Nobles) Rich of Ethridge; Ricky (Jamie) Rich of Yukon, Oklahoma; grandchildren, Dylan Wilson of Nashville; Elizabeth “Lizzy” Estes of Lawrenceburg; Josie Estes of Lawrenceburg; Chandler Rich of Yukon, Oklahoma; Chloe Rich of Yukon, Oklahoma; Logan Moore of Yukon, Oklahoma; Abby Love of Mt. Pleasant; Ava Love of Mt. Pleasant; Katherine Gibbs of Columbia; brother, Jackie (Donna) Gibbs of Columbia; and several nieces and nephews.

Active pallbearers will be Dylan Wilson, Chandler Rich, Russell Gibbs, Eric Nobles, George Stofel, Gary Brown, Patrick “Pete” Coggin, and Todd Blocker. Honorary pallbearers include Ricky Harrington, John Jackson, and past and present employees of Columbia Neon.
