Joe Dan Maness was born January 19, 1943 in Bethel Springs, TN the son of the late Leonard and Ocal Whitten Maness. He was united in marriage to Barbara Gail on April 12, 1971.
Joe Dan was a member of First Baptist Church in Selmer. He was an active member of the McNairy County Republican Party, having served 2 terms as Chairman. He formerly served on the McNairy County Board of Education, Selmer JC’s, and County Executive Committee serving as 6th District chair. He was a long-time supporter of the McNairy Central Bobcats, and an avid University of Tennessee fan and enjoyed collecting memorabilia.
Mr. Maness departed this life on May 6, 2024 in Selmer, Tennessee at the age of 81 Years, 3 Months, 17 Days.
He is survived by his wife, Barbara Maness; four sons: Joey Maness and wife Bridgett, Mike Maness and wife Cathy, Anthony Maness, Trent Maness and wife Brooke; ten grandchildren: Lauren Smith (Danny), Clay Maness (Sophia), Cole Maness, Caley Burks (Brian), Dustin Maness (Sasia), Caroline Maness, Carly Maness, Cadey Maness, Ainsley Maness, Audrey Maness; ten great-grandchildren: Guliana Smith, Landon Smith, Odin Smith, Raylan Smith, Gray Maness, Ruby Maness, Mia Burks, Brayden Burks, Lexie Burks, Harper Maness.
In addition to his parents, Mr. Maness was preceded in death by five brothers: Leon Maness, Quinn Maness, Raymond Maness, James W. Maness, and Glenn E. Maness.
