Joe Andrew Plunkett, age 77, passed away at his home in Cordova, AL on April 6, 2026. Joe was born November 28, 1948 in Dora, AL to Andrew K. Plunkett and Josephine Irene Key.
The family will receive friends on Sunday, April 12, 2026 at 2:00 p.m. at Collins-Burke Funeral Home, funeral services will follow at 3:00 p.m. in the Collins-Burke Chapel.
Joe graduated from Dora High School in 1966 and after high school joined the United States Marines and proudly served his country until 1969. Joe received the National Defense Service Medal, Vietnam Service Medal, Vietnam Campaign Medal, Combat Action Ribbon, Rifle Marksman Badge, and the Purple Heart.
Joe was preceded in death by his Parents-Andrew K. Plunkett and Josephine Irene Key; Granddaughters-Jamie Kernop and Summer Freitag; Brother and friend-Ricky Whitlow, and his Wife of 42 years-Joan Beck Plunkett.
Joe is survived by his Daughters-Misty Kernop (John West), Andrea Allred, Rebecca Freitag (Mike); Stepson-Rusty Harrison (Susan), and Step-daughter-Christy Marham (Jeff); Grandchildren-Alex Crosby (Bruce), Kyle Allred, Briannah Cook (Nate), Zachery Kernop, Madison Goodgame (Michael), Tyler Kernop, Cameron Plunkett, Emma Freitag, Jake Freitag, and Josie West. Several great-grandchildren, many family, and friends. Joe loved every moment he got to hunt, fish, and watch Alabama football. In lieu of flowers please donate to any cancer fund in honor of Joe.
