Joe Alfred Hunt Sr Joe Alfred Hunt, age 90, of Murfreesboro, Tennessee, passed away on Monday, July 19, 2021, at Adams Place Independent Living surrounded by his family. He was born on August 27, 1930 in Polkville, North Carolina on his family’s farm to the late John Lee and Sally Cathleen (Harrill) Hunt. Joe served his country in the United States Air Force from 1950-1954 and was honorably discharged as a Sergeant. In 1957, he graduated from Appalachian State University with his Bachelor’s Degree and in 1958 received his Masters Degree. In 1972, he joined the Masonic Lodge in Charlotte, North Carolina whom he continued to support throughout his life. A veteran of World War II, he was stationed in London and France during the war. He was employed for thirty-five years in the insurance industry for Peerless Insurance (now Liberty Mutual), retiring as Southeastern Regional Vice-President. For the next twenty years, Joe and his wife, Joan, enjoyed retirement life on Oak Island, North Carolina, where he spent his time at the beach, riding his bike, flounder fishing, and growing tomatoes that were the envy of all. In recent years, Joe and Joan moved to Tennessee to be closer to family. In addition to his parents, Joe was preceded in death by his daughter, Patrice Elaine Hunt Kitts; and siblings, James “Jim” Lee Hunt, Betty Hunt Blackwelder, John B. “Bill” Hunt, Judy Frances Hunt, and Jane Elizabeth Hunt Dobbs. He is survived by his loving wife of sixty-five years, Joan Carolyn Wesson Hunt, whom he loved more than breathing air; son, Joe A. (Jenny) Hunt Jr. of Bell Buckle, Tennessee; and grandchildren, Hannah Kay Hunt (Tyler) Freeman of Nashville, Tennessee, Sarah Ashleigh Hunt of Nashville, Tennessee, and Samuel Kitts of Greenville, South Carolina; and a host of many loving family members that he loved immensely. Visitation will be from 10-10:45 am Thursday, July 22, 2021 at Stamey-Tysinger Funeral Home in Fallston, North Carolina. Graveside Services will follow at 11:00 am at Rose Hill Memorial Park in Fallston, North Carolina with Masonic Rites bestowed.
