Jock Eden Barnes, age 76, traded his earthly life for a heavenly life with his savior, Jesus, on February 17, 2025. He passed away peacefully surrounded by his family at Decatur Morgan Hospital.

Funeral Services will be on Saturday, February 22, 2025, at 3:00 PM in the Peck Funeral Home Chapel, with Rev. Scott Reeves officiating and Peck Funeral Home directing. Burial will be at Oak Ridge Methodist Church Cemetery. Visitation will be on Saturday, February 22, 2025, from 1:00 PM-3:00 PM at Peck Funeral Home.

Jock was born, April 19, 1948, to Roy Eugene Barnes and Betty Evelyn McMillan Barnes, in Erin, Tennessee.

Jock graduated from Houston County High School in Erin, Tennessee, class of 1966. He also graduated from two machine operator programs and attended Calhoun Community College in Decatur, Alabama.

While living in the Detroit, Michigan area, Jock was a journeyman fixture builder in the Automotive industry. After moving to Alabama, he was a master carpenter, who did a variety of jobs from small projects to building homes and making furniture.

The most important thing in Jock’s life was his Christian walk. He loved reading the Bible and made that a priority in his life. Not only had he read the Bible through many times, he committed large portions of scripture to memory. He always encouraged others to study God’s word and to live a life of service to others.

Jock loved Southern Gospel music. He sang bass in various gospel groups over a span of fifty years.

Preceding him in death were his parents, Roy and Betty Barnes, one brother- Jed Barnes, twin granddaughters- Abby and Alison Barnes, and one grandson- Christopher Russo,

Mason Barnes

Six Sisters and Two Brothers

plus a host of nieces and nephews.

His grandsons will serve as pallbearers.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to Samaritan’s Purse.
