Joan Wilson James, 72, passed away on Nov. 5, 2018. She and her twin brother were born Feb. 16, 1946 to Roy James and Lila Eunice Wilson. She grew up in Empire, AL and later graduated high school in East Chicago, IN. Joan was married to Ralph James for 44 years and lovingly cared for him during his battle with cancer. She was a member of New Bethel Baptist Church and worked for over 30 years at Warrior Mercantile as a sales clerk and seamstress.
Joan was preceded in death by her husband, parents and 2 brothers, Gerald Wayne and Joseph Perry Wilson. Survived by daughters- Dena Green(Scotty) and Lori Otts(Brian), both of Warrior. Grandchildren- Madison Hand(Dallas), Matthew Green(Aubrey), Maribeth and Macy Green, and Nate and Gracie Otts. Great-grandson- Silas Hand.
She will be remembered as a loving and wonderful mother and grandmother who faithfully prayed for her family.
Services will be held Thursday, Nov. 8, 2018 at New Horizon Memorial Funeral Home, Dora, AL. Visitation from 4:00-6:00 pm, followed by a chapel service at 6:00 pm. Rev. Scotty Green presiding. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to her favorite charity, St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, PO Box 1000, Dept. 142, Memphis, TN 38148-0142 or online at stjude.org.
