Joan Skoglund, 86, of Huntsville, AL, died peacefully on November 14, 2023, with her family by her side.
She is survived by her husband of 68 years, Oliver “Nick” Skoglund; her son, Robert (wife, Karen); her daughter, Elizabeth (husband, John); four grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; and many friends.
Joan was born in Mississippi and has lived in Alabama, Arizona, Florida, and even the Marshall Islands before settling in Huntsville in 1977. Her time in Kwajalein, collecting live shells for their salt-water tank, was such a highlight that both her and Nick became actively involved in the local Concologist (Shell Collection) Chapter once they returned to Huntsville. She also enjoyed reading, cooking and baking, needlepoint, quilting and spending time with a small circle of close friends. She and Nick were members of Whitesburg Baptist Church. She was also patiently supportive of her husband’s 63-year involvement in Boy Scouts.
Visitation will be Saturday, November 18th, 2023, from 10:00 – 11:00 a.m. at Laughlin Service Funeral Home, 2320 Bob Wallace Ave SW, Huntsville, AL 35805. The funeral service will follow at 11:00 a.m. with Darryl Craft officiating. Burial will be in Trinity Memorial Gardens, Trinity, FL.
