Mrs. Joan Lafayette Gibson, age 76, of Union Grove, passed away at her residence on Tuesday, September 24, 2019.
Mrs. Gibson was born on September 20, 1943 in Walker County to Mr. James B. Powell and Ruby Lanier Powell. She served as a nutritionist in the Marshall County School System from 1977 until she retired. She was part of the National Nutrition Program. Mrs. Gibson enjoyed gardening and cooking. She loved her family and always enjoyed babysitting her grandchildren.
She is a member of Union Grove First Baptist Church.
Mrs. Gibson is survived by her husband of 59 years, Roger L. Gibson; daughters, Terri Jordan (Daryl), Judy Shelton (Jeff), Paige Narrell (Greg); son, Roger Gibson (Renee); grandchildren, Daniel Paschal (Allison), Clay Kelley (Courtney), Jerrod Kelley, Scotty Jordan (Iris), Whitney Walker (Chuck), Krista Shelton, Bryce Shelton, Courtney Ferguson (Brian), Anna Catherine Blevins (Taylor), Kacey Hood (Andrew), Grace Narrell; 10 great grandchildren; sisters, Jean Womack (Dan), Carolyn Kirkland, Diana Brooks (Michael). She is preceded in death by her parents, James and Ruby Powell.
Funeral service will be 11:00 a.m. Friday, September 27, 2019 at Arab Heritage Memorial Chapel with Bro. Greg Narrell & Bro. Rick Douglas, officiating. Burial will be in the Union Grove First Baptist Church Cemetery with Arab Heritage Memorial Chapel, directing.
Pallbearers will include; Clay Kelley, Jerrod Kelley, Chuck Walker, Taylor Blevins, Andrew Hood & Daniel Paschal.
Visitation will be 6:00 p.m. – 8:00 p.m. Thursday, September 26, 2019 at Arab Heritage Memorial Chapel.
