Jo Anna Cox James passed away peacefully in her home on April 2, 2024. She was born to Rhoda Parker Brown in Memphis, Tennessee. She was a graduate of Ole Miss with a major in English as well as being a member of Kappa Delta Sorority. She moved to Huntsville in the late 1960’s. She was part of a ladies’ bridge club for over 50 years and a member of the Medical Auxiliary Club and Cosmopolitan Club in Huntsville. She also contributed to many charitable endeavors. She had a passion for travel. She and her late husband, Charlie James, pursued this passion and opened a travel agency in Huntsville. They became their own best clients. Jo Anna was known for wit, charisma, great sense of humor, and the love for interior decorating. She was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, and friend. There was nothing more that she loved than her family and a good get-together.
She is survived by her two daughters, Anna Hornsby (John) and Kellye McCormick; her son, Grant McCormick; her stepchildren, Sharon Grubbs (Don) and Connie Weaver (Steve); two granddaughters, Laura Fallon (Ben) and Savannah McCormick; four step-granddaughters, Danna Alm, Emily Bass (Bradley), Kylie Hughes (Nicholas), and Katie Moore; three great- grandchildren, Lyla Fallon, Russell Fallon and James Fallon; and four step great grandchildren, Ellie Bass, Cole Hughes, Ethan Bass, and Harper Hughes.
The family is especially grateful to Roy Norris, a lifelong family friend, who so lovingly cared for Jo Anna the past several years. We would like to thank him and Hospice of Alabama for the wonderful and loving care these past few weeks.
Visitation is planned for 12:00 and memorial service at 1:00 on Friday, April 5, 2024, at Laughlin Service Funeral Home, Huntsville, Alabama.
In lieu of flowers, the family would like donations made to Kids to Love, or a personal charity of your choice in her memory.
