Funeral services for Mr. Jimmy O. Rooks, age 72 of Delta, will be held Tuesday, June 29, 2021 at 11:00 A.M. at Benefield Funeral Home in Lineville with Elder L.C. Harris and Rev. J.R. Morris officiating. Burial will follow in the Mt. Olive Baptist Church (North) Cemetery.
Mr. Rooks passed away Saturday, June 26, 2021 at East Alabama Medical Center in Opelika. Jimmy was a native of Clay County and always called Delta his home. He graduated from Lineville High School and also attended Southern Union State Community College. He was drafted in the United States Army and served in Vietnam escorting convoys as a Military Policeman. After returning home he entered the Alabama National Guard and served in the 128th Medical Company in Ashland and served his country over 30 years and retired with the rank of Sergeant First Class. Mr. Rooks worked for Vulcan Life Insurance Company for several years, enjoyed hunting, fishing, but most of all he was a loving husband, father and granddad.
He is survived by his wife of over 50 years, Ina Harris Rooks of Delta; two daughters: Denise Watts (Randy) of Lineville and Sherri Gray (Matthew) of Wedowee; one Son, Mark Rooks (Heather) of Barfield; his aunt, Helen Rooks of Wellington, Florida; seven grandchildren: Nick Watts, Caitlin Tomlin (lan), Clay Rooks (Grace), Jolie Rooks, Lauren Watts, Adalee Gray and John Gray; one great-granddaughter, Anna Grace Rooks, plus a large extended family.
He was preceded in death by his parents, William Otis Rooks and Sarah Katherine Sprayberry Rooks; one sister, Brenda Burroughs and brother in law Bobby Burroughs.
Active Pallbearers will be Nick Watts, Clay Rooks, Robby Burroughs, Randy Burroughs, Rusty Burroughs, and Kevin Elliott.
The family will receive friends at Benefield Funeral Home in Lineville, Monday June 28, 2021 from 5:00 to 8:00 P.M. and until service time on Tuesday.
