Jimmy Lawrence Sledge, age 75, passed away Wednesday, Sept. 21, 2016. Visitation will be Saturday, Sept. 24, 2016, from noon until 2 p.m. at Spry-Williams Funeral Home. The funeral will follow at 2 p.m. in the funeral home chapel with David Sain, Mike Baker, and Don Williams officiating. Entombment will be at Tri-Cities Memorial Gardens with Dale Boren officiating.
Lawrence was a member of the Florence Boulevard church of Christ. Lawrence enjoyed introducing his friends and family to “off-the-beaten-path” places to visit or eat. He was also an avid antique car and car tag enthusiast. He spent many Saturdays with friends at local car shows or driving around the North Alabama region. He enjoyed learning as much as possible about the Shoals and its rich music history. Lawrence worked for Reynolds Alloys as a sales service representative. He retired in 2000 to spend more time with family and friends.
Lawrence was preceded in death by his parents, Jimmy Roy and Lavada Sledge, and sister, Margaret Sledge. He is survived by his loving wife of 53 years, Faye Sledge; daughters, Tracey Boren (Jimmy), of Madison, Alabama, and Lana Davidson (Mike), of Florence; and grandchildren, Amy Hardin (Matthew) and Kerry Boren, of Madison, and Evan Davidson, of Florence.
Pallbearers will be Ken Tate, Marty James, Ronnie Putnam, Sammie Fritts, Bill Morrison, Skipper Thomas, Boyce Holderfield, and Clanton Poole.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the North Alabama Christian Children’s Home or Mars Hill Bible School.
