Jimmy E. McElyea, 52, of Athens, passed away Sunday, June 15, 2025. Jimmy was a 1991 graduate of Lauderdale County High School. He worked for Dearl Poss at Poss Auto Body for a number of years where he learned everything about running a business. He took that knowledge and opened Mack’s auto Body and Mack’s Doc Builders. His favorite past-times with his friends involved making music and dirt track racing. But the things he loved the most was camping and being with his family.
Visitation for Jimmy will be Thursday, June 19th from 5-7 at Rogersville Funeral Home. A funeral service will follow on Friday at 1, also at Rogersville Funeral Home. Burial will be in Wallace Cemetery in Limestone County. Jerry Marlow will be officiating. Pall bearers will be James Shedd, Scott McElyea, Jeff McElyea, Kohl Patterson, Trevor McElyea, Scotty Johns, James “Tebo” Malone and Danny White.
Jimmy is preceded in death by his maternal grandparents, Mildred and Elston Gatlin; paternal grandparents, Lamon and Irene McElyea; sister, Jaime Moore, brother, Tony Shedd; brother-in-law, “Cuz” Malone. He is survived by his wife, Cheryl McElyea; son, Trey McElyea; daughters, Alisha Garner and Kristy Segler; mother, Wanda (James) Shedd; father, James (Alice) McElyea; grandchildren, Kaleigh, Kinslee and Kohl Patterson, Madison and Chase Segler; brother, James Scott (Susie) McElyea, Jeff (Char) McElyea; sister, Tammi (Mike) Gates; numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.
