Jimmy David Moomaw, 84, went home to be with the Lord on Friday, April 24, 2026. The memorial service will be Saturday, May 2, 2026 at 11:00 a.m. at Washington Park Baptist Church, 201 N. E. Broadway St., Muscle Shoals, AL. 35661. Officiating will be Bro. Ted Vafeas, Pastor Daniel Dulaney, and family friend, Dr. Bobby Moore. Visitation with the family will be after the service. Burial will be at Greenview Memorial Park, Florence.

Jimmy was preceded in death by his wife of 59 years, Barbara Ann Joiner Moomaw; parents, Gladys Phillips Moomaw and Jim Moomaw; brother, Daniel Moomaw; and sister, Hazel Moomaw Holt.

He is survived by his daughter, Tonya Payne (Steve); grandson, Justin Payne (Baily); and grand-dog, Jack, his buddy.

Jimmy was the youngest of three children born to Gladys Phillips Moomaw and Jim Moomaw. He graduated from Central High School in 1960. During his life he worked at Liberty Supermarket, Todco Overhead Doors, Big Star Supermarket, Malone and Hyde Vending Co., Mid-South Vending Co., and was a janitor at First Baptist Church, Muscle Shoals. He retired from Reynolds in 1999. Jimmy and Barbara owned and operated Babyland (baby furniture) in Florence for several years.

He was an active member of Washington Park Baptist Church and an ordained deacon. Other churches he attended thru the years include Hillsdale Methodist Church (where he was saved), Underwood Baptist Church, Forest Hills Baptist Church, First Baptist Church, Muscle Shoals (now Grace Life Church), and Highland Park Baptist.

He enjoyed visiting and sending cards to people who visited the church. He also enjoyed researching his genealogy. Jimmy enjoyed trips to the Smokey Mountains and making memories with the family and his grandson, Justin, every year. After Justin grew up, Jimmy and Barbara continued going to the mountains as long as their health permitted. After their last trip in 2021, they enjoyed riding the back roads in Colbert and Lauderdale counties and the pig paths in Wayne County, TN while listening to Southern Gospel and Bluegrass music.

Jimmy was so thankful he was able to be Barbara’s caregiver in the last years of declining health.

His last message to everyone would be come see me in my new mansion. Jimmy was a friend to all and loved everyone and was “Just a Sinner Saved by Grace.”

To our Amedisys Hospice family, we say a special thank you for the great care and love you shared with our family during this time in our journey. You have truly become like family. We love and thank each one of you. Thanks also to Greenview Funeral Home for assisting the family with the funeral arrangements.

Memorials may be made to Washington Park Baptist Church or the charity of your choice.
