Jimmy Dale Mayhall passed away peacefully at his home on Sunday, February 27, 2022. He was born in Haleyville on April 2, 1955 to Willard and Christine Couch Mayhall. He attended Haleyville schools and was Salutatorian for his graduating class of 1973. He attended Northwest Alabama Community College and began his career in Broadcasting at WJBB radio station in Haleyville. He worked there many years and enjoyed so much being a part of the local community. He decided to trade in the microphone for a keyboard and camera and began his second career with the Northwest Alabamian newspaper as a sports writer and then as sports editor for many years until his retirement. He received many recognitions, honors and awards for his coverage of High School Athletics in Northwest Alabama.
His visitation will be on Wednesday March 2, 2022 from 12:30PM – 2:00PM at the First United Methodist Church in Haleyville, AL. Funeral service at 2:00PM at the church, with Bro. Mitch Nethery officiating. Burial to follow in Littleville Cemetery.
Jimmy married the love of his life, Jerrie Ann Brannon on July 2, 1977. They received the gift of a lifetime when their son, John Mark, entered their lives in 2002. Jimmy was so very proud of the achievements and academic successes of John Mark. His face lit up with joy anytime John Mark’s name was mentioned!
Jimmy was an active member of the First United Methodist Church in Haleyville. He had accepted Christ into his life at a young age and was baptized by his father, who was a Freewill Baptist Minister. Jimmy led by example and was a wonderful husband and father.
Jimmy is survived by his loving wife of 44 years, Jerrie Ann; his son, John Mark Mayhall; his sister, Cathy Ann Manasco (Landon) of Lynn, AL.; his brother, Mark Mayhall of Birmingham, AL.; his father in law, Jerry Brannon (Glenda) of Addison, AL.; his brother in law, Dee Brannon (Paula) of Addison, AL.; sister in law, Tammy Mah (Alan) of Witchita, KS.
He was predeceased by his parents, infant brother, Johnny Dewayne Mayhall; mother in law, Barbara Odom(Roy); grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. Sam Mayhall and Mr. and Mrs. John Marion Couch
