Jimmy Clay Childers, 66, of Fort Payne, passed away Friday, February 19, 2021 at his home. He was a 1972 graduate of Fort Payne High School. Jimmy worked for many years at WeeSocks Hosiery before teaching Biology at Ider High School. Jimmy was a “science nerd” resulting in his hobby of breeding and raising roosters. He loved learning, loved reading and loved finding random facts to discuss. Jimmy was an avid sports fan – all sports; whether he was watching them on tv, coaching them in Little League or playing them in the backyard with his kids and grandkids.
Funeral services will be 2 p.m. Monday at Wilson Funeral Home with Sister Anzella Abernathy officiating. Burial will follow in Walkers Chapel Cemetery. The family will receive friends Monday from 12 noon until the 2 p.m. hour of service.
He is survived by his wife of 31 years, Vickie Childers; children Julie Ayers and husband Ross, Rachel Ebert and husband Chad, and Clay Childers; mother Margaret Childers; grandchildren Emma and Ethan Evett and Landon and Andrew Ebert; brother, Neil Childers; sister, Lynn Dean; and several nieces, nephews, and cousins.
He was preceded in death by his father, CB Childers.
