Jimmie Dee Martin passed away Dec. 12, 2015, at Floyd E. “Tut” Fann Veterans’ Home. Funeral services will be held at Lawrence Funeral Home Dec. 15, 2015, with visitation from 9:30 a.m. until 11 a.m. with funeral immediately following. Conducting the funeral will be the Honorable Mark Craig. Jimmie was born Feb. 15, 1930, to Audrey Lewis Martin and May Lynn Steenson Martin in Lawrence County. After high school, he enlisted in the Air Force where he served four years, coming out as staff sergeant. He was a Korean War veteran. He worked at Wolverine Tube for 36 years, served on the Board of Education for 12 years and served as manager of West Lawrence Water Department for several years. He was a member of New Zion Baptist Church. He was preceded in death by his parents. Survivors include his wife, Barbara, of 59 years; son, Jim (Kristi), of Mount Hope; daughter, Dee Dee, of Florence; and five grandchildren, Elizabeth, Walker and Jake Brown, Cheyenne Martin and Lindsey Preston.
