Jessie James Gilliam age 77, passed away May 23, 2022 at Henderson County Community Hospital.

He was born February 13, 1945 in Chester County the son of the late Jessie Jackson and Artie Edna Hopper Gilliam. He grew up in Enville and attended Chester County High School. He served a brief time in the U.S. Army. He was a Baptist in belief.

He served on the Chester County Board of Commissioners for several years.

He worked in construction most of his career and was self-employed owner and operator Gilliam Backhoe Service.

He loved to fly and owned his own Cessna airplane. He also loved guns and loved target shooting.
Mr. Gilliam is survived by a son, Jackie Gilliam (Christy) of Enville; a daughter, Denise Fletchall of Sturgis, South Dakota; four grandchildren and caregiver and great nephew, Jerry Gilliam (Vicki) of Pinson.

He was preceded in death by fourteen brothers and sisters.

Funeral services will be announced later at Shackelford Funeral Directors – Crook Avenue with Scottie Hopper officiating. Burial will follow in Smith Graveyard at Cabo.
